Dean of Admissions and Committee on Interviews papers 1931-1939.

Office files of Dean George O. Ferguson, Jr., consist chiefly of minutes (reports) by the "Examining Committee" on interviews of prospective University of Virginia students in New York City. The minutes give the names and addresses of the applicants, committee vote or ranking and assorted comments on family, high school work, financial need, personal appearance and personality, and special circumstances. Of interest are occasional anti-semitic or other disparaging comments on several of the candidates and their parents. The files also contain some miscellaneous form letters, notes on grading practices, and a list of courses with a high percentage of failures from 1926-1927.
